About Us

Founded in 2007, Brasken Labradoodles began with a chance encounter at Universal Studios Hollywood, where Brandon and Kristen Silva met an Australian Labradoodle service dog in training. Inspired by the breed’s intelligence, temperament, and allergy-friendly coat, the couple spent years researching and planning before officially launching their breeding program.

Today, Brasken Labradoodles is a respected name among labradoodle dog breeders in California. Focused on quality over quantity, the number of breeding dogs is limited, placing their dogs  in loving guardian homes. Every dog in their program receives regular veterinary care and lives as a cherished family pet.

The Labradoodle itself was originally bred to serve as a hypoallergenic assistance dog, combining the Labrador Retriever’s loyalty with the Poodle’s low-shedding coat and intelligence. Over time, the breed has become highly sought-after for families and service work alike. At Brasken, their Labradoodle bloodlines have been carefully developed over generations, using only Labradoodles in their program today.

Brasken Labradoodles is more than a breeding program — it’s a family story built on passion, care, and a genuine love for the breed.

Serving Southern California

Brasken Labradoodles is based in Atascadero, California, ideally located to serve all of Southern California. Whether you’re in the city or by the coast, we’re not far away from you.

  • Los Angeles – Atascadero’s proximity to Los Angeles brings us so many new clients from the City of Angels all the time.
  • San Diego – You from San Diego will have to drive almost 5 hours to us, but it will be well worth it.
  • Long Beach and Irvine – Just a few hours’ drive means our expertly raised pups are ready to make their way to the heart of coastal Southern California.
  • Anaheim and Santa Ana – Similar to those from LA and Long Beach, you will be with us in about 3 hours.
  • Santa Barbara – We’re thrilled to be just a short drive away from Santa Barbara, and that’s why many of our Labradoodles found home in this beautiful coastal city.

Southern California Factors Affecting Labradoodles

When considering bringing a Labradoodle into your home in Southern California, it’s essential to take into account various local factors that can influence their health and well-being.

  • Warm Climate and Heat Sensitivity: Southern California’s sunny, warm weather can affect Labradoodles, especially in the summer. Labradoodles, with their Poodle heritage, have a thick coat that needs regular grooming to prevent overheating.
  • Air Quality and Allergies: Areas in Southern California can experience higher levels of air pollution, which might trigger allergies or respiratory issues in sensitive Labradoodles.
  • Coastal Influence and Saltwater Exposure: Living near the coast means access to beaches and water, but saltwater and sand can irritate a Labradoodle’s coat and skin. Proper after-swim care, including rinsing off the salt and sand, will maintain your dog’s coat and prevent discomfort.
  • Urban and Rural Living Differences: Whether you live in a city or more suburban or rural areas, Labradoodles need appropriate stimulation and exercise.
  • Heat-Related Exercise Adjustments: Labradoodles are active dogs, but in Southern California, exercising in the middle of the day can lead to heat exhaustion. Morning or evening walks are ideal to avoid extreme temperatures.
  • Parasite Prevention and Flea Control: In Southern California’s warmer climate, fleas and ticks are common. Labradoodles need regular parasite prevention treatments.

Types of Labradoodles We Breed

We offer many different types of Labradoodles:

Our Breeding Standards

At Brasken Labradoodles, the highest breeding standards come first. We do everything necessary to raise healthy and well-tempered puppies, a perfect fit for loving families. Our breeding program is built on ethics.

Comprehensive Health Testing

We conduct extensive health screenings on all our breeding dogs to guarantee they are free from genetic conditions commonly found in Labradoodles. This includes testing for hip and elbow dysplasia, eye diseases, and other hereditary concerns to promote strong, long-lived puppies.

Temperament and Socialization

From birth, our puppies are exposed to various sights, sounds, and experiences to help them develop into confident, well-adjusted companions. We follow structured socialization protocols, including Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS), to create a calm and friendly temperament.

Ethical Breeding

We prioritize responsible breeding, which means we never overbreed our dogs and each parent dog has a high quality of life. Many of our breeding dogs live in loving guardian homes, where they are part of a family rather than a kennel-based program.

Optimal Nutrition and Care

Proper nutrition plays a crucial role in the early development of our puppies. We provide high-quality, nutrient-rich diets for both our parent dogs and their litters. Puppies also receive regular veterinary checkups and deworming.

Support for Families

Our commitment to our puppies doesn’t end when they leave for their forever homes. We offer ongoing support and guidance to new owners, helping them with training, health concerns, and any questions that arise throughout their Labradoodle’s life.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, Labradoodles can thrive in Southern California’s warm climate, but they do need regular grooming and care. Their coats, although hypoallergenic, require attention to prevent matting, especially in the warmer months.

In Southern California, Labradoodles require regular grooming due to their curly coats. Brushing every few days helps to avoid matting, especially in warmer months. Regular baths and professional grooming every 6-8 weeks is also advisable.

Labradoodle puppies in Southern California need the standard vaccinations, including rabies, distemper, parvo, and Bordetella (kennel cough), along with any additional regional recommendations.

A balanced, high-quality diet that supports a Labradoodle’s active lifestyle is ideal for Southern California. Make sure their food contains healthy proteins, essential fats, and omega-3 fatty acids. In addition, consider portion control to maintain a healthy weight.

Australian Labradoodles come from multi-generational breeding, incorporating additional breeds like the Cocker Spaniel for consistent coats and temperament. Regular Labradoodles are typically first-generation mixes between a Labrador and a Poodle. Another difference between Australian and regular Labradoodles is that Australian puppies tend to have a bit more predictable traits, especially regarding coat type and allergy-friendliness.
